Many bodybuilders love to live by the motto that there is no gain without any pain. The reality cannot be further from the truth. Our bodies always use pain as an indicator to tell us that something is wrong and needs to be fixed. As someone who wishes to become fitter and stronger through weights training, pain can only be embraced as an instrument in avoiding injuries and long term damage to our bodies.

To get the most from bodybuilding, not only must you stick to sound training methods, but safe measures must be undertaken to protect your body. Steering clear of injuries is essential to making consistent progress. What can you do to achieve that?

1. Stick to free weights and exercises that make use of them. While there are some machines that are safe, most of them are not. You do not experience the benefits of a natural and full range of motion unless you rely on exercises that use dumbbells and barbells.

2. Concentrate your efforts on major movements such as the squats, deadlifts, chin ups and bench presses. These exercises utilize all your major muscle groups which are really what your body is built on. They also encourage a more balanced body to be built.

3. While the majority of your workouts should comprise major exercises, be sure to include a few minor ones like hamstring curls. There is a place for them as the major movements do not hit all of the muscles in a body. Forgetting them might lead to overcompensation by other muscle groups.

4. Working out in the gym is the stimulus your muscles require to grow in response. However, you need adequate amounts of rest and nutrition as a foundation for the muscles to recover and become stronger. After a heavy workout with the major exercise, there should be at least 24 to 48 hours of rest before the next training session, plus the right levels of nutrition. Failing to do so would invariably lead to a tired body and mind, which in turn brings one down the path of injury and overtraining.

5. Never go into a workout set with cold muscles. Perform a few warm up sets to get blood flowing to the muscles and keep them warm. This will also help your mind and body get in focus for the proper sets when the heavier weights are in place. Again, all this is done to avoid injuries that might result from ill preparation and a lack of concentration.

If you follow the safety tips above, there will be less risk of experiencing pain and unsafe bodybuilding workouts. This in turn translates to better gains and results that not everyone else might enjoy. Thus, the right maxim should be “no pain, most gain”, and safe bodybuilding will bring you the most benefits.

The majority of motorcycle riders always wear their helmets. But many choose not to wear a helmet during their rides. Is it safe to ride without a helmet? Should you always wear a motorcycle helmet?

What are the reasons that someone wouldn’t wear a helmet, a piece of gear designed for protection? Some cannot afford a helmet. Where it isn’t required, others argue they don’t want to, that they like the freedom.

There are also horror stories about times that helmets are said to have done more harm that good, and lead to injury or death. Some riders feel there are safer without wearing a motorcycle helmet.

However, nothing could be further from the truth. When riding a motorcycle, the best way to protect yourself is by wearing a motorcycle helmet. Studies have shown that helmets drastically reduce motorcycle related fatalities and injuries.

If you love to ride, you’ve probably heard of the idea that all motorcyclists have either been in an accident, or will be. Motorcycles are notoriously prone to certain types of road issues and accidents.

This is the reason why you should always wear a motorcycle helmet, even for short rides. They are specially designed to protect your head and your neck from injury, and can be invaluable if you are involved in an accident.

Something to keep in mind is to never buy a helmet used. It can be impossible to tell if the helmet was ever dropped or worn in a crash, and either situation will render the helmet worthless and unable to protect you.

For those riders that still choose not to wear a motorcycle helmet, they may be in for a surprise. Many areas require motorcyclists and their passengers to wear them, and you can be ticketed and fined for failing to comply.
