Gastric banding surgery and other medical surgeries can help very overweight people to lose weight. Both gastric bands and gastric balloons usually take under an hour to fit, whereas a gastric bypass takes a couple of hours to complete.

The Department of Health* says that obesity is one of the biggest health problems in the UK with one in four adults affected. It is not a simple problem to fix; many people have trouble losing weight through both diet and exercise.

Gastric banding, also known as lap banding, endeavours to make you feel full after eating a small portion of food. It helps people to eat less and lose weight by restricting the capacity of the stomach.

During the procedure an adjustable band is placed around your stomach to create two compartments, keeping a narrow opening between the top and bottom so that food can pass through it slowly. There is a limited space for food so it quickly creates the sensation of fullness. Once the food passes through the opening into the lower part of the stomach, it then makes its way through the rest of the digestive system.

The gastric band procedure is done by a keyhole surgery, which requires a general anaesthetic. The surgery lasts from 30 minutes to an hour, but requires an overnight stay to recuperate and recover. Gastric band adjustments can be made during follow up appointments depending on how much weight you are losing, and how quickly you are losing it.

Those with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or more can be suitable for a gastric band; they can also be used by patients with a BMI of 35-40 who suffer from other weight related diseases such as diabetes.

As with all surgical procedures, there are risks as well as benefits, and it is important to weigh these up before proceeding. Your doctor will illustrate the risks associated with the surgery, such as slippage of the gastric band, which can lead to blockages and needs urgent correction.

When you apply for a spousal visa with a US citizen or resident you require an interview as part of the process. It can be a very stressful part of obtaining a visa because there is so much at stake and the immigration officers are notoriously humorless and serious. There are several ways that you can prepare for the immigration interview questions and get your visa easily.

Be prepared to answer all kinds of personal questions about the nature of your relationship with your spouse and details about them and yourself. It is not nice to have to reveal to a stranger the color of your spouse’s underwear, but they are merely trying to ascertain that your relationship is genuine and continuing. You should be prepared to answer inquiries about where and when you met, how long you have been in the relationship, about the wedding, your spouse’s likes and dislikes and things that you do together.

The immigration officers may decide to interview you together or separately. It is common for the officers to take the spouses into different rooms, interview them and then compare the answers. In reality it is common for genuine couples to not know their partner’s favorite song or film, but you must be thoroughly prepared and find out all of these kind of things. Common questions include: favorite place, color, likes and dislikes.

Do have knowledge of your spouses assets such as the make and model of their car, how much rent they pay, mortgage payments, credit cards and so on. Also you should be able to describe what your spouse’s house looks like including the type of furniture, the make of the stereo and TV, the color of the walls and other features of the house.

Before the interview you should gather evidence in written form of your relationship. This can include joint bank accounts, phone and electricity bills in both names or with the same address, details about joint membership of clubs and associations, invitations with both of you listed, photos at parties and social occasions.

Do have friends or family that are US citizens who will vouch for your relationship in written form. Bring along these notarized statements and copies to the interview. On top of this you should also be able to tell the immigration officers about your spouse’s family including their brothers’, sisters’ and parents names, occupations, where they live how many kids the siblings might have and so on.

Arrive at the interview punctually and prepared with all the forms and written evidence that you need. You should also ensure that you are dressed appropriately for such a formal interview in neat and tidy clothes, clean shaven if you are a man and tidy hair.

Never joke around with an interviewer about sensitive subjects such as drug smuggling, illegal immigration, marriages of convenience or terrorism. They will not take them well and it will only cause problems for your visa. Although questions might be offensive or overly personal do not become defensive or get a bad attitude towards the interviewer, they are testing you to see how you respond. Make sure you are completely honest as they are trained in body language and know all the tricks.

If English is not your first language you are permitted to bring an interpreter to the interview. This is recommended so that you do not answer any questions badly due to lack of understanding. You will not be penalized in anyway for requiring an interpreter. Never answer questions that you are not sure you have completely understood.

The interview is an integral part of the visa process. By preparing well for the interview with your spouse you are less likely to have any problems with obtaining your visa. Be honest at all times in the interview as they are trained in body language to know when you are lying and they will already know everything about you before you arrive anyway.

There are quite a few dos and don’ts to immigration interview questions that will help you to be prepared, ace your interview and land your visa. Find out all you need to know about the green card interview now!

Dating on a Dime

When you are trying to save money by eating at home and limiting your visits to bars and clubs, going out on a dates might seem counterproductive. What you need to remember is that not all settings where you can spend time with your date need to focus around expensive entertainment and services.

Fortunately, there are ways you can have a great date on a budget:

Do something together - Sitting in front of one another is not always the best arrangement. There is a lot to be said about mutual experiences. So go online and look for outdoor activities. Go for a walk out of town or in a park or play a sport together.

Go grocery shopping - You don’t have to go out to an expensive restaurant to eat. Instead, go to a discount grocery store and pick up some of your favorite items. Not only will this be cheaper, you can spend a great time together preparing the meal and eating it either outside or in.

Order films on PPV - Pay-per-View movies always feature hot new releases. Instead of spending tens of dollars on move tickets, scan your cable for a good movie you would both enjoy and order it on PPV. Get some popcorn, dim the lights and you have a great movie experience at a fraction of the cost.

Walk on the beach - Going out to the beach is an excellent way to enjoy time together without having to spend any substantial amount. Leave in the afternoon and make sure to stick around till the evening. The views and the air are purifying and relaxing.

Add Some Culture - If you’re both into the arts or are trying to be, you may want to check out an art gallery within your area. Or, find out about local arts and crafts shows or outdoor community concerts. You might have to pay a nominal fee or it could even be free and certainly fun.

There are many ways to date on a small budget. As long as you plan in advance and have some ideas for activities you will have a great time.
