Raise the Red Lantern: Striking reenactment of the life of a young concubine in’20’s China, as university educated gal (Gong Li) is sent to feudal nobleman’s palatial home to become his latest spouse. The film provides an exceptional view of sex, dependability, and captivity during that time.
