The Significance of Self Motivation
Why is self motivation important? Despite there being tons of books, courses and resources on motivation out there, many people still do not acknowledge the importance of having self motivation.
The problem is there are people who simplistically believe that because human beings universally desire success, happiness, wealth etc, that desire would already provide enough motivation for them.
However, that low level of motivation is really actually only a kind of wishful thinking. It’s not enough. It’s like saying you want something to happen, but you’re not willing to commit to make it happen. There’s a big difference between wishful thinking, and being totally committed.
Perhaps we don’t feel the need for motivation when everything in life is going just as planned. When the situation is calm and smooth sailing. However, it is during times of personal disasters and crisis that the importance of having self motivation becomes apparent.
Let’s say someone faces a major crisis in his life. How would that person react to it if he has low self motivation? He would probably not react in a positive manner. He will probably focus on the worst, feel angry, self pity and sad, rather than try to fix the problem.
However if that person has a strong self motivation, he will not react in such a negative way. Rather, he will motivate himself to learn from the setback and meet future challenges with courage.
Another important reason for self motivation is it pushes us to improvement, to make strides and progress. Imagine what our world would be like if none of the scientists, inventors or engineers had the motivation to bring and create various technological advancements to humankind.
It is motivation that drove them to keep on trying, to keep putting in effort, to never give up on seeing their vision come into creation. If these individuals did not have a strong motivation, would they have been able to achieve what they did? Definitely not.
There’s no reason why we should neglect self motivation. Whenever we face difficulties, whenever the going gets tough, whenever we feel discouraged and frustrated, it is motivation that keeps us going. So start working on increasing your motivation today.
