Many men do not feel comfortable about buying underwear for the woman in their life because it is such a private thing to do. Also woman have very particular tastes when it comes to lingerie and because there is so much choice in the way of lingerie in the stores these days it is very common that men struggle to buy the right thing.

Even though many underwear shops have specialist advisors on hand to aid men make purchases for women, men still find themselves often too embarrassed to ask for help. This, however, is a real step in the right way and some men will benefit from them.

First of all you need to have a look in her lingerie drawer. Research here is a crucial aspect of getting it right, just like if you were buying a new TV or laptop. Get the size right! Make sure you note down the sizes of her knickers (usually a number like 8 or 12 or small, medium or large). With bras you are looking for a number and letter (the chest measurement and cup size, i. E., 34C). Writing all of this information down will ensure that you do not forget it and will help in the shop.

Also note down the types of lingerie. Is the style mostly plain, sporty or sexy? If the collection is full of comfortable cotton underwear don’t buy anything too unpractical and if you see lots of lacy items she will probably not appreciate plain white cotton slips.

When it comes to colours, almost anything goes. The trendiest underwear sets come in all sorts of colours these days. Take a note of what colours your partner likes and try to co-ordinate. Nothing is more boring than set of plain white or cream knickers as a Christmas lingerie present.

Another thing to check are the fabrics and colours compared to what she wears normally. If she is a conservative dresser, take this into account for her underwear too. If she wears tight or low-cut t-shirts you will need to allow for this too.

Bras are probably the most complicated item of underwear to purchase. You will need to look at whether a model is under-wired, what shape it has etc. As a general rule of thumb, under-wired, low-cut and balconette models are the most flattering. Anything which mentions padding or slimming is likely to be unappreciated as a Christmas gift.

Finally, presentation. Do not wrap an expensive seductive Christmas lingerie set in awful wrapping paper with drunken Santa’s on it. A gift box is a good idea and say yes if the store offers to wrap the gift for you. Your partner will appreciate the effort.
