Working Moms Think Creatively To Juggle Chores
Today’s working mother faces challenges that stay at home mothers don’t face. Between a professional career, being a mother and a wife, a working mother is required to multitask and do it well. But which part of her life should take priority? She wants and needs her career, often to help with household finances. But children do grow up quick and time spent working is time spent away from them during their formative years.
And the wife role is the one everyone relies on, from the husband, to the children, to the teachers at school. Time must be found to shop and cook meals, clean the dishes and mop the floors. And there’s that huge pile of laundry that never seems to get any smaller. In the midst of all this, there never seems to be any time left over for the wife. There are some creative solutions to the problem. One answer is job sharing. More and more employers are allowing and encouraging this. Basically it amounts to two people sharing one job. The advantage to the employer embodies the concept that two heads are better than one, and it is assumed that the two workers will collaborate.
A common sharing scenario may have you working three days per week every other week, and two days per week the alternating weeks. If the family can afford this financially, it is a great solution which will give you some personal time. Moms may also start a mother’s group that shares baby sitting or taxi services. With this newly found time, she may even be able to schedule a date with her husband.
Consider taking a business like approach to your home. Work is a lot less crazy when you’re organized, right? Many working moms are starting to run their homes like a business - right down to utilizing an ‘inbox’ for important school papers and bills. Your Blackberry, Palm or cellphone/electronic planner can be a lifesaver when it comes to organizing your busy schedule.
Engaging the husband in household chores is also encouraged. Whether he’s putting away dishes, folding clothes, or taking out the garbage, his assistance will be welcomed and appreciated, as it allows the working mom just a little more freedom time to relax. And that is what this is all about.
